Bruce McLaren born in Auckland New Zealand was a race car designer champion driver automotive engineer and inventor. Driving his own car a McLaren M6A Bruce was the Can Am champion in 1967 with his team mate Denny Hulme finishing second in this season. During the life of the Can Am racing series (1966-74) McLaren cars won a total of 56 races. Bruce McLaren was inducted into the New Zealand Sports Hall of Fame in 1990 the International Motor Sports Hall of Fame in 1991 and the Motorsports Hall of Fame of America in 1995
