Scalextric Ferrari 250 GTO

The latest Scalextric Ferrari 250 GTO is an excellent slot car model and a great eye catcher too! This prancing horse has a well detailed body and has a flawless red paint finish. What else would you expect from a Ferrari and Scalextric? Another fine touch, is the bright headlights and taillights. Perfect for running your endurance races in the dark!

The interior has great attention to detail with gages and "The Prancing Horse" on the steering wheel. The driver is more lifelike, right down to his goggles (not the old block head driver).

Now for the chassis and running gear: The chassis is set up with a front mounted 18,000 rpm motor with a 9:27 gear ratio and drive shaft. The drive shaft bushing fits snugly into the chassis set up and stays put unlike earlier front motor slot cars. The chassis also has a place for a Digtial Chip placement (Part # SSR7006) next to the side of the motor. (needs to be soldered) The rear and front plastic hubs are free of plastic flashing. The rear axle with plastic bushings snaps very snugly into place into the chassis.

Chassis set up: I use hot glue or Shoe Goo to secure the rear drive shaft bushing so it does not pop out under hard racing conditions! Even though we rolled it a few times and bounced it off a guardrail or two, it held in place. Glue the motor in place. I noticed the motor rocked side to side a little under load, due to the torque of the motor. You'll want to put a little oil on the motor shaft bushing , front axle and rear axle bushings and crown gear.

Track Test:This Scalextric Ferrari 250 GTO, has a very strong magnet. The downforce of 178g keeps it pretty anchored. The Jasonator and Tony put the Ferrari on the track and did a few parade laps. Fresh out of the box it ran well with the stock, narrow rubber tires. With good downforce if you overdrive it, it will de-slot suddenly as The Jasonator found out after putting the car through a workout trying to maximize his cornering speeds. Tony quickly suggested a set of silicones (PMTRM006). We all want a little more grip! So back to the test track, and now to our surprise, the magnet downforce went from 178gm to 250gm. Wow, now back to the track. The Jasonator with the controller in hand cuts his best lap time by a full second! Lots of grip now with the new tires and faster cornering speeds. That a boy Jason now its Tony's turn. Tony is all smiles as he beats Jason's time by a few tenths of a second!

All in all, I have to say the Scalextric Ferrari 250 GTO is a good example of a quality and detail of the "Prancing Horse".

It's very easy to run and a great car for racers, collectors and newbies too! -Tony
