Absolutely not, if you can open a package and assemble the track you are well on your way.
Do you need a lot of technical knowledge to get started?
No. Slot cars work out of the box and even the larger, more complicated sets are easy-to-use.
At what age is it appropriate for kids to play with slot cars?
While kids of all ages can use slot cars with supervision, we recommend six as a good age to start playing with your child. A lot depends upon your kid's dexterity and patience as running the car successfully around the track requires a little of both.
I thought about coverting my basement. Can you help?
Converting a basement into a home slot car raceway is great family fun idea! And we can even design a layoout for you particular room.
What do I need to buy to get started?
We recommend that you consider how much room you have for your set and go from there. All sets sold here at Fantasy World Hobbies are expandable, so it's easy to add-on if you decide you want more.
What's the difference between analog and digital?
Analog tracks can only run one car in each "slot" at a time. Digital sets offer more realistic racing with things like lane changes and pit stops. Analog costs less, but digital offers more in the way of features.
How much money will it take to get started?
Fantasy World sells sets under $100 and as high as nearly $600. How much you spend depends on how big a track you buy and whether you want digital or analog.
What if I'm just buying it for a kid as a toy?
Fantasy World carries the 1/43 scale Carerra ‘Go!’ line, these are hobby quality slot car sets but at a lower price point. They make an excellent entry into the hobby. Or try the 1/32 Scalextric Start sets.
I'm a real racing enthusiast who wants to really get involved, what should I buy?
If you want the most realistic experience possible, buy a digital set with the Pit Box add-on. The pit box actually tracks fuel levels throughout the race. When your car gets low on gas it actually runs faster and when it's nearly empty it starts to slow. Pull into the pit for a realistic refueling experience.
Why buy from a hobby store instead of a toy store?
Fantasy World sells hobby grade slot car sets. Our sets are all expandable and can be upgrade in countless ways. The sets and cars have almost every part available should you need a replacement. The ones sold at toy stores are toys meant to be used for a little while and then discarded.
